The scary thing about cancer (well, one of them) is that most cases are just random genetic anomalies with no known external cause. You can eat a perfect diet, exercise daily & do everything else right & STILL get struck down by cancer. People don't like to believe that but it's true.

My mom is fighting breast cancer right now and watching this while seeing her go through treatment, the scientific developments are incredible. The therapies she has access to now at UCSF have come so far from these days. It’s really just incredible.

In fact, contrary to popular belief, smoking rates didn't decline substantially after the surgeon general's report, they started falling in 1982 when Congress hiked the cigarette tax

Somewhere in there I saw a headline about 20 billion dollars spent so far on cancer research and whether we had seen productive results from it. Then I remembered that our current president wants 5 billion for part of a wall or fence or whatever he's calling it at the moment, and I realized that spending 20 billion is nothing when it comes to cancer.

I love this documentary. My suggestion: the documentary about the war on aids? What do you think New York Times?

We would save more people if we learned how to screen better and catch cancer earlier. Most socialized countries have better results for cancer simply because they pay for screenings, which Americans don't get. The best cure for cancer is prevention, but we put no money into preventative care for Americans at all, just focus on the late-stage treatments.

We still spend almost nothing on cancer research.

the way you can get cancer can be explained from a verse in the song “life is fun”:

JAMES: it’s great to be alive
DAVE: you could wake up with cancer
JAMES: but i’m healthy?
DAVE: *_healthy people still get cancer._*

Our society spends all of their physical and moral currency on trying to cure cancer, but almost zero on trying to get rid of cancer causing agents and trying to reduce corporate America’s ability to give us all cancer

I honestly hope that colon cancer is eradicated soon but a lot of the reason why people don't why get tested is actually because of the prep that you have to drink before your colonoscopy.

There might be a treatment for metastasized cancer within the next decade. The TED-Ed channel has a youtube video on it. It's about using bacteria to fight cancer.

$100 billion over nearly 50 years for cancer research; USA military budget in one year over $500 billion. 🤔
