I can recall my neighbor’s chained Doberman making an unexpected lunge at my Airedale, all teeth and spittle. Paco, my Airedale, took the lunge in stride, just moving his body away. The Doberman just managed to nick the tiniest tip of Paco’s nose. I thought all hell was going to break but, nope. Paco just stood there holding that magnificent terrier stance, Ol’ Rough an’ Ready. It would take more than a nip to get my dog’s blood up. Paco showed me that morning that he was a lover, not a fighter. Dang, I loved my Airedales!

My Airedale was 25.5" top of the shoulder.. he had massive teeth plus he was a boy you'd want by your side if you were ever in need of him.. his name was Morgan. I'd put my money on the Airedale.. they possess a drive & they were built in a time when the terrain was very harsh.... they are still used in the Military in the UK for security work...

What an odd question in the title. The best in what, good looks, brains, guarding instinct, or just having fun with you dog? Depends on what you're looking for in a dog. For me the airedale, anyday. For others not so, i imagine.

Airdales by far we’ve two 120# plus. They can adapt to anything and do anything. Lap dogs and fierce protectors. They were used on safaris to hunt lions. A very interesting breed.

I have had both not at the same time and they were great with children and at the same time me being a security member in Northern Ireland both done a great job at security around the home natural very protective with out specialist training

I had an Airedale and she passed away two years ago. I am a disabled Vet living on a fixed income. My problem is that I would never have any other breed. I just can't afford to buy another one as they are so expensive. I never see people selling them at a reasonable price. I really want one:(

i have owned them both.. currently.. 2 airedales.. one fact that didnt mention is that airedales coats are weather proof.. and they can stand temps as low as -50.f. my dobbies would freeze up at around 30 degrees f..

I've owned and adored both Dales & Dobies. Currently live with an 8yr old Airedale.
Always say, if I had an Airedale and a Doberman together, would think I'd died and lived in Heaven!

Aunt had a Dobie, she was huge but I wasn't very big. Kez would put her nose under me and push me gently out of her chair when we went to visit. She used to run to the other end of their street and literally pick up a yorkshire terrier, bring it home and play with with it outside her house. I grew up with Airedales though from four years old, two at home with my family then later one I bred, she was without doubt the most inteligent dog I have ever known and had eleven pups. A garden full of Airedale puppies is fantastic. I think it would just be your choice between them but mine would always be the Airedale.

I'm 76. My family has had a bunch of Airedales. Watch the tail. That Airedale is wanting to play, not fight. Not familiar with dobes mannerisms but he looks like he's doing his job. When the dobe says, "I'm not playing", the 'dale leaves. Not aggressive behavior,

Dobermans shed more than an Airedale, not less but Airedales do require more grooming. I admire Dobies but Airedales are the breed I love. My deciding characteristic was their protectiveness. When I was a child there were two German Shepherds in my family that bit people when you could understand it from the dog'd point of view. The person was in the wrong place or doing something suspicious but neither had bad intentions. I was looking for a breed that was not suspicious of strangers but could be protective when needed. My Airedales fit the bill perfectly. Thery were outgoing and friendly but proved they could be protective of me. basiclly they had a higher threshold for shifting into protective mode which meant they were less likely to make the wrong judgement. I think that fits better for most people in today's crowded world. I never worried about my Airedales biting someone.

🎉🎉I have trained and worked gsd, dobies and after training 3 dales for complex disabilities assistance I realized I didn't need gsd for police work and search/ rescue and cadaver work. Unlike the hunting breeds only good for bird season, and dobies for bite work..the dales not only hunter and retrieved every bird species, but also wild hogs( useful for feeding the people after a hurricane or tornado) but also repelling dangerous cougars or bears.or eliminating them. As a search dog, joyfully and tirelessly finds people. Airedale excell as forensic dogs.. the breed in 36 years consistently! They made great transition to schools with mass shootings and are great pr dogs. But(⁠☉⁠｡⁠☉⁠)⁠!with extra large kNines they have a formidable bite for bears and bad guys .I've had wonderful gsd but hip issues and shedders. My Kapo turned 18 🎉july 4th. He is still actively working disasters, as my nearly 13 year old and we currently are in Florida for this hurricane season and have already hog hunted between tornado events

I really love a good dobe but I’ve never owned one. On my fourth Airedale. My best dog might have been a gsd but he only lived 6 years. Dales are smart, charming and funny animals, and are a little smaller than most dobes but I love them both even though I don’t think I will ever own a dobe just cuz I’m too old now

Crazy part is for years I believed the Dobermans are stronger, people underestimate Airedales, those curls confuse a lot of people, stronger bite force, and more versatile breed.. and I own both.

Saying that an Airedale’s coat is 'low maintenance' is hilarious. Also, if taken care of, it should shed less than a Doberman.
