Fine Young Cannibals (spesso abbreviati F.Y.C.) era un gruppo inglese, formatosi a Birmingham nel 1984.
Sono conosciuti soprattutto per i singoli Suspicious Minds (cover dell'omonimo brano di Elvis Presley), She Drives Me Crazy, Johnny Come Home e Good Thing.
Si sono sciolti nel 1992, ma nel 1996 si sono riuniti per la registrazione del singolo The Flame, che è stato inserito nella raccolta The Finest.
Il nome del gruppo deriva dal film I giovani cannibali del 1960.

My brother died at 23, in 1986. He was always drunk and one night didn't come back home. I, and all his friends, loved FYC and this song. They opened for UB40, at Red Rocks, for a concert he didn't make because he died 3 weeks earlier. And yep, my mom and all of us wished he'd have come home. RIP Monk!

I was 20, when this song came out. Now I`am 53 and I never ever lost a nano of excitement, this song creates in me, because this sound is unique in it`s sadness and dynamic. Nothing compares to this sound, there`s not a single piece of music that sounds similar.

I was 7 years old when this was released. It’s now 2023 and I’m 46 yo and still love this song. I probably won’t be alive in another 39 years but just wish to say, hi to the future. Xx

Listening feb 2022, takes me right back to the summer of '85, this belter of a tune blasting out on the radio of my school common room, having red marlboro & a brass zippo lighter in my blazer pocket and about 6 earrings in my left ear, the best years of our lives and we dont know it until we are in our 50s!

The song is inspired by a 1975 program made by Yorkshire Television called 'Johnny Go Home'. The program was a ground-breaking documentary on young runaways and life on the “meat rack” in London’s West End. As the programme makers filmed, real life events took over the storyline and a simple, (albeit shocking in itself) documentary turned in to a double-length programme that covered the real life, seedy, gritty, dangerous world of Piccadilly ‘rent boys’ when one of them was found dead.

Excellent band. Great clip. I arrived in London in 1985 and this band was huge. Actually it was an awesome era for UK music.

Every 5 years I see this clip and each time it's better and better.
This videoclip is really fantastic, !!! So raw, so pure, so love, so joyfull, sad, so trash and funky at the same time.

The camera movements, the way they're dressed, their dance. It's really amazing !!!

And I don't speak about this voice and the music 'cause the word and the world are too small to describe this genuineness and sincerity

That's how to sing a song, deliver it, film it and stay fresh and cool 30 odd years later

The bass line is insane, who'd even write that? Unbelievable.

In my opinion, this was their first and best song.

Such a punchy vibrant sound, from that opening high note on the guitar.

Total respect to a band that have stood the test of time.

I salute you.
✊👏👏👏👏👏🙏
