Part 1

The seeds for two of the three great Gunpowder Empires the Safavid and Mughal empires begins with the birth of two boys at the end of the 15th century, Babur then known as Zahir-ud-din Muhammad and Ismail.

Both lost their fathers at an early age, both had a mixed Persian and turco-mongolian upbringing, both were warrior poets and both would carve out empires for themselves.

This is the story of Ismail I and Babur of the Safavid and Mughal Empires!

Music is courtesy of "World Music Official". The song is titled "Full Moon Night"

Safavid family hailed from Iranian Kurdistan, and later moved to Iranian Azerbaijan, finally settling in the 11th century CE at Ardabil. Traditional pre-1501 Safavid manuscripts trace the lineage of the Safavids to the Kurdish dignitary, Firuz-Shah Zarrin-Kolah.

Thank you all for sticking around. While the VR channel is still my primary channel I will make a real effort to have consistent content on this channel as I love History and dealing with historical content i feel is under-represented like Persian/Arab/Indian/Meso American/Far East/African history.

UPDATE REGARDING THIS VIDEO APRIL 29 2020. THere have been numerous comments to the effect of "AHA YOU SAID SHAH ISMAIL WAS TURKISH HE WAS PERSIAN!" or "SHAH ISMAIL WAS NOT PERSIAN HE WAS TURKISH!"

What I said in the video which was not missed by those who listened to the words was that Shah Ismail was brought up in a household that had Turkic cultural influences. He spoke Azerbaijani alongside Persian. Not just a few words he was bilingually fluent based on where he grew up. There is no doubt that Shah Ismail was exposed to both Iranian and Turkic culture. It would serve him well and even help form his initial armies.

NOTE: The difference between "Cultural" and "Genetic". I don't get into genetics in the culture...this is a history channel I do because i enjoy BOTH TURKIC AND IRANIAN HISTORY EQUALLY. Culture and Genetic are often similar but not always. Again all i stated was that he was brought up with those cultural influences as did Babur. That to me is why the story of them both was so fascinating. Two orphans, similar upbringings go on to carve out great future empires. THAT was the point of the video. Not Turkic vs Iranian both of whom have fascinating history. You are welcome to watch either way but the videos are intended to celebrate HUMAN history. They were made by a Germanic guy who LOVES Iranian/Turkic history. Please just be aware of the language that i use and why I am careful in how I use it.

It's great to finally see a proper documentary about Gunpowder empires. Please make a video about Aryan migration into Iran and origin of Iranian people.

Thanks again everyone! Part 2 will be ready by midweek (hoping for the 20th of March). Expect an even more polished video. I now have all the effects and pieces for better future videos. I could have waited (and perhaps should have) with this first episode but really wanted to get it out even if not quite as polished.

UPDATE MARCH 22ND 2019. Just need a few more days to polish as we are also moving to other side of continent but before our trip Ill have part 2 up!

UPDATE MARC 27 2019. Currently moving to other side of the country which is an 8 day drive so won't have part 2 up until I arrive there...so roughly 10 days. Apologies for delay!
