As a hockey fan first and pens fan second I was actually disappointed to see this. I like Makar a lot and he’s good for the sport, I don’t like seeing guys like him take unnecessary headshots. He also didn’t seem himself after the hit, sad.

As a pens fan, I hope they suspend carter so he doesn’t play 18 minutes a game. (He played 10 this game so hopefully Sullivan learned his lesson)

I was sitting in the corner when this happened, I originally thought that he was hit in the face with the puck, but after seeing this, I think that Carter should be suspended for atleast 2 games (pens fan btw)

That was a huge miss from the Ref, That was dangerous

Wow, reminds me of the “heritage classic” headshot on Crosby in the year Bettman assured us he was cracking down on player safety?

Makar’s head is down and toward the end board. At the last second he turns his body and his head is facing the corner/side. Carter didn’t change his path at all. Yeah sure, call the penalty, but the announcers sounding like Jack Edwards are ridiculous, no intent there at all

This seems like the sort of thing you fight a guy over.

And now 2 days later Makar is out for 3 games with a head injury. What a shock.

Rule 48 states absolutely nothing about intent or accident. It's all about the point of contact which is 100% Cales head

Carter was pursuing the puck. Wasn't even looking at Makar. Didn't even make any movement to intentionally clip him. Makar happened to turn into Carter at the exact moment Carter was there. Unfortunately, hockey is a fast, physical game..especially down near the net where the puck is bouncing off sticks around the goalie. To say this was intentional, warranting suspension..is a bit of a stretch.

Makar stepped into a freight train. Not the Pens fault. Wasn’t dirty at all unlike his shit in Seattle yesterday.

Makar gets elbow to head...no teammates fight.
Someone lays a perfectly clean hit....line brawl.

00:41 Was Makar turning into it as Carter skated past? Granted, Carter didn't even think of avoiding contact but could it also be seen as incidental?

Are you people blind or bias? That was not intentional. Cale Maker turned into Jeff as he's looking at the direction of the puck. Not once did he lean into Makers head with his shoulder. Smh.

I don't get it. The ref is standing right there. The players reaction of clutching his face and going to the ice tells quite the story - even if your view is blocked.
Why not just review it and get the call right? Isn't that what video review is there for?

“I don’t believe it was on purpose… this needs to be out of the game”. Mark Rycroft is trying his best to fill Peter McNab’s shoes but his inexperience shows lol

What was worse was that whole 3rd period. Avs gonna Av. Glad Cale's okay.

I don’t get why they can’t review the play for a penalty. The NFL (and other American football leagues) can review targeting calls for potential ejections. This type hit to the head is the exact same situation when targeting is called in American football.
