I love the context behind Nixon’s “facetious remark” comment.

In the 1960 debate, Nixon was asked to respond to the fact that when President Eisenhower was asked what ideas his VP, Nixon, brought to the White House Eisenhower responded with “if you give me a week I might think of one”

Of course when asked about it at the debate Nixon played it off as a “facetious remark” from the President

I like how perfectly this clip captures the way Nixon tried so hard (in vain) to pander to the "hip" generation. A perfect real life example would be his appearance on the show "Laugh In" where he says their famous catch-phrase "sock it to me". Which was made more famous by him. I know as a Gen Y, I would have never heard the phrase if not for the countless references to it over the last 50 years. I didn't even know what Laugh In was until I watched a short documentary about "sock it to me."

Funny Fact:

JFK and Mayor Quimby (based on JFK) is voiced by Dan Castellaneta (also the voice of Homer). Harry Shearer (voice of Mr. Burns and Nixon), also voices Rainier Wolfcastle (based on Arnold Schwarzenegger), who was once married to Maria Shriver (JFK's niece) and her Uncle Jack defeated Nixon in the 1960 Presidential Election.
