Nikon Z6 / Z7 REVIEW “One Year Later”...SORRY NIKON!!!

NEW FroPack 2 Lightroom Presets

It's been a little over a year since Nikon officially released the Z System with the Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7. This video is my REVIEW a year later. I've used both cameras extensively in many different situations from indoors to outdoors to low light and great light.

I still stand behind my review's of both cameras but a year later there's a lot to discuss. There's more competition in the way of the Canon EOS R, Sony a7R IV, Sony a7R III and even the older a7 III.

This is my OFFICIAL Review one year later of the Nikon Z System.

This video was filmed with the Nikon Z6 of which we own 5 of and use as our main video cameras for the majority of our videos.

Who is this calm rational person, and what have you done with Jared?

Hey Jared, I usually don't comment on videos, but I loved your calmness and collectedness in this video, a joy to listen to!
Would really love to see more of that.

Have a great day!

Thanks for this great video. Me, as an amateur and I choose the Z6 instead of the A7III few weeks a go, just because I had this feeling with it in my hands that I didn't had with the Sony...It' difficult to explain but I've tried them all in a shop. I took my time. Actually, I was not looking for technical perfection and for super specs, I just wanted a camera that would make me want to shoot. It's as simple as that! The Z6 fits perfectly in my hands. It makes me want to grab my camera, go out and take pictures! That's the most important thing to me

I honestly don't know how you could've painted a better picture for the viewers. You clearly were making a conscious effort to be fair to the camera makers, your audience, pro photographers, amateur photographers, and fanboys. This is not easy to do, but I feel like you nailed it. I think the relaxed and calm presentation of the information really helped. Maybe it's not as fun and exciting as teasing the fanboys of Camera Brand X, Y, or Z, but you really got all your points across in a way where there really should be no hurt feelings. Really appreciate the video. I could imagine this one was quite a challenge to try and get right.

As someone who shot Nikon his whole career i can tell this video really hurt Jared to make. Break-Ups are never easy

I prefer this Jared, slower-paced, more serious without all the juvenile jokes aside. I understand he tries to have an energetic and childish vibe, but this more serious Jared seems like an evolution who is much better to watch and specially to hear

I am a Z6 owner, very happy one: AF is an AI function and as long as the processor is fast enough it should be able to do what the Sony does via a firmware update. But even if the processors are 1-1 it comes down to us programmers, which company, Nikon or Sony, devs are doing a better job. Hopefully the devs at Nikon can improve the AI in the focus with the current Z6 within the first quarter of 2020. Making focus point move via the back touch screen is both firmware and hardware so that may be dependent on how fast the LCD touch sensor can keep up even if the firmware has the function added that will determine its usefulness assuming its added. If previous 2 can be updated via firmware in Q1 that would only leave only the glass, that's 100% hardware so they really need to get a grip on that ASAP and make glass for Z faster. I love my Z6 but it could use some firmware tweaks for sure on the AF which is supposed to be coming soon so this video may have been too soon. Z50 is great and Z70 should be even better. Continuous development and Continuous integration would get the Z AF up to par quickly and could even surpass on the firmware side.

Z6 shooter here. I agree with most of your observations about autofocus and the like, but I'm counting on these things improving within the next few years. Even with the shortcomings of the Z system, I find I very rarely miss a shot that I want to get when shooting events and candid portraits. Obviously, lens selection will improve with a bit of time, and in the meantime, I am enjoying the 50mm 1.8s and the 24-70 2.8s--both incredible lenses.

I'm not afraid to admit that my Nikon nostalgia makes me shun the "better" Sony system. I'm sorry, but I just like Nikon more!

I sold my Nikon d850 and bought a z6, and I'm happy with everything.

I have a Z6 and, although Canon and Sony offer great options, the Nikon system works great and has the ergonomics I crave. The 1.8 lenses are actually a positive for me as they are light and “affordable” .... and.... they’re optically excellent.

This is one of the best reviews I've seen on YouTube. It's a real help to have Jared break down the reasons for moving over to Sony while doing justice to the good points of the Z6 and its image quality while backing that up with his own shots. When you are looking to buy a camera, you can make a fairly informed choice if you do some research, but what you cannot do is make an informed choice based on years of experience and use of the cameras in the field. It's so helpful for Jared to provide that, speaking from his own extensive knowledge and experience.

Z7 shooter here, purchased just under 1 year ago. As much as it hurt me to watch this, I agree with pretty much everything you said here. There are two things that make me happy about my purchase, however. A year ago, the A7r4 was not out...and I would not have been happy with the A7r3. Secondly, I'm primarily a landscape photographer. For my own sanity, I hope I stay that way until Nikon catches up to Sony...

Nonetheless, nice informative video - thanks for sharing.

Jared!! Long time lurker, long time fan. We here at Right up My Creek want to thank you for all of the camera reviews, information and videos that helped us Military nobody's, get up the nerve to start our passion of filming comedy sketches. I started this "brand" when I was stationed here in Japan in the latter part of this year. While my editing skills and graphic designs skills are on par, filming eh not so much. I have spent the better part of two years not only with your channel, but many others, understanding the world of film and lighting and blah blah. Our first video is almost completed and we are excited, but nervous. This post is merely a CONGRATS on your achievements and another thank you for what you do. You have definitely inspired us to get out there and work hard at this. Who knows, it may take off, it may not. Either way, we will have the memories of trying out our dream instead of wishing we would have started it. I hope 2020 brings more success Jared. We love you from Okinawa Japan!!

Sticking to my Nikon DSLRs . The mirrorless system is not mature enough yet to make me invest. Moreover am still happy with what my gear can do. In the end people judge the result, not the gear. Great video Jared.

Jared's voice is like a very mad dad talking to his beloved son

As Nikon Z6 shooter I’m amazed with the quality of raw, ergonomics and overall build quality, but I’m definitely limited with small selection of native glass and almost no 3rd party options. Would love some small lenses for travel (like pancake or new tamron fixed 2.8 lineup) and some pro lenses in 15-35/16-40 and 70-200 range! Why did they even create $8k Noct lens...

A fair and honest video... I'm a Sony user but admire how Nikon's images look, and also am wondering how Nikon manages to 'squeeze a little bit more' out of the Sony sensors they use in their cameras than Sony does lol! You truly seem to be 'torn' between the two... Btw the A7R IV feels fantastic and it's autofocus IS a jump from the A7R III; this camera that originally was trashed for being a 'minor upgrade' has a lot more going on underneath the hood than people (including me) originally noticed and is now getting the credit it deserves.

Hearing him talk about Nikon reminds me of someone who recently broke up with their girlfriend, but still wants to be friends LOL
