Herbert Howells - Nunc dimittis (Collegium Regale) (score video)

Written in March 1945 when World War II had not yet ended, Howells expresses such hope and tenderness here as must have given succour to those who heard it. Moving that the same choir he wrote this for has made this wonderful recording 74 years on.

I’ve chosen this to be taken out of church at my funeral. I’m not dying but I’ve written my intentions clearly. Very powerful and I’m surprised more people don’t have it there.
