You could spray the back of the stencil with spray adhesive that would make it easier and it would stay in place. Let it dry for a bit you want to be able to remove it after you are finished. Also, tap off some of your paint on paper towels. So cute!!.

This is beautiful! Love the sign. Just a tip you can get little pouncer paint brushes that make stencilling so much easier.
