My Mother Makes India's Oldest Sweet

My mother-in-law makes a special ancient Indian dessert on special occasions. Do you know what it is?

It's known as Pude (पूड़े) or Malpua (मालपुआ), and it's considered India's oldest dessert as the original recipe is written in the Rigveda.

When you dump a ladle of it into hot clarified butter, known as Ghee, it creates this thick & gooey pancake.

Pude or Malpua is considered India's oldest dessert because the recipe dates back thousands of years to ancient Hindu scriptures. And today, the women of my family carry on this tradition on in our house, and I feel grateful that they teach me these traditions too.

This dish is also popular in Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, so what do you call it where you're from? In Haryana, we call it Pude (पूड़े).
