While it has been a humiliating drop in votes for the African National Congress, things seem to be worse for Cyril Ramaphosa who is eyeing a second term as South Africa's president. The ANC, now a divided movement, will have to forge an alliance for a majority in the national assembly. Several analysts say the ANC's dismal performance in the election could turn Ramaphosa into a scapegoat. Ramaphosa will have to persuade his party's National Executive Committee to keep him in the job. Moreover, if the ANC manages to convince Jacob Zuma's MK party for support, the former president could demand Ramaphosa to be replaced in exchange.
