This is my newly made DIY 2x72" belt grinder. It's made from 2" and 1.5" hollow structural steel, 3/16" wall thickness. The wheels are from Oregon Blade Maker, the motor is an 1800rpm, 2hp Harbor Freight unit, wired for 240V. The motor has a 5" pulley with the drive shaft utilizing a stepped pulley (3", 4", 5", 6" sheaves). I forget the exact numbers, but it should give me speeds between 1800-3800sfpm, or something like that. It has a 40lb gas spring to tension the arm. The design is about half based on one found online. It turns large pieces of metal into smaller ones real fast!

Two years later, this grinder is still going strong and has made many knives.
