"Alleged". Of course there are Chinese spies all over our institutions. We literally have the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Hunt) married to a Chinese Communist Party member. We have the new Foreign Secretary (Cameron) a bought and paid for Chinese lobbyist who refuses to say who he has been working for since leaving the job of PM, you have Labour MP (Gardner) giving tonnes of select committee data to his Chinese assistant (and probably handler). The institutions like Cambridge University are absolutely rife with illegal Chinese influence. None of this would surprise anyone. People are too busy tittle-tattling about politicians being rude to each other and not noticing the buy-up of poor entire country by a dictatorial foreign state.

I am surprised how politicians get things so wrong. Diane Abbott had a strong point about policing. She really didn't help the situation by being so painfully unaware of what expenses would be incurred by actions to increase police numbers.
