This is a known issue with these scopes. To repair it, you need to open the scope, and connect a UART cable to an internal JTAG header to reload the firmware. There is a LONG thread over on the EEVBlog forum with all the details. It takes a good bit of time to go through the whole procedure, but this failure generally CAN be repaired.
