My 4th great-grandfather came from Italy to San Francisco and having just missed the California gold rush, went up during the Yukon gold rush at Fraser River in 1858. I would kill for some historical documentation of his time there. I've found 2 conflicting sources, one saying he got a lot of gold, another saying he got virtually nothing. But he soon after came back to S.F. and started a bakery. At his death, numerous jars of gold and silver were found, amounting to about $100, 000 today, that was outside his land and bank holdings. So if he failed in the Yukon, he had to be a damned good baker.
