185 The Methane Threat

Professor Peter Wadhams is an expert on sea ice at Cambridge University. In this conversation with Professor Franklyn Griffiths, Dr. Adele Buckley, Dr. Pia Wadhams (his wife), and Metta he discusses the alarmingly rapid melting of the methane hydrate crystals (clathrates) at the bottom of the Siberian sea in the Arctic Ocean. These deposits have a permafrost "lid" locking them down, but global warming is puncturing the permafrost and releasing plumes of methane, which is more than 20 times as powerful a greenhouse gas as carbon dioxide. Wadhams considers this as currently the most serious threat to humankind's survival. We talk of various proposals for solving the problem, none of which are well established as effective.

Complex industrial civilizations is a heat engine no matter how its energy is sourced. Therefore, if large amounts of energy are used to mitigate the methane problem or even taking carbon out of the atmosphere, very little progress is made overall since the energy consumed also contributes to the climate change crisis.

All the techno fixes and geoengineering come up short one way or anther, not enough political will, nobody is doing it and barely small scale experimenting, at least Elon Musk is doing more then talk, he is actually firing rockets with people aboard, all these are proposed suggestion and even at the proposal level too many faults, I propose Artificial Intelligence, 3rd or more generation AI that can recursively self improve and theorereicaly achieve god like intelligence, Now well man fails and comes short for solution the Super AI may have solutions that save the biosphere of earth because it would have god like intelligence compared to puny fouling up the works humans. so just like in one year in blank check a vaccine for was covid was found, an atomic bomb in 2 years and Apollo program in less then a decade.
So everything should be thrown at Super AI to solve this problem.
