In fact, the OWTC is one of the only buildings (atleast I think) that you can't fly into. All other buildings are solid, except it.

So here's something that actually happened to me in the summer of 2001. United Airlines at that time would sell you time on their Level D simulators whether you had a pilot's certificate or not. They were trying to monetize the simulator down time and offer the general public an interesting experience. I paid $2650 for four hours of 777-200 sim time.

Besides doing the standard maneuvers like takeoffs, landings, and various emergency scenarios, we did some fun that you don't normally do in these very expensive training devices. We landed this huge airplane on an aircraft carrier and did some aerobatics.

But one of the things we did was make a fast pass low over NYC. We went past the Statue of Liberty and headed for the Twin Towers. I did a knife edge pass between the towers and then we reset to fly below the Golden Gate bridge.

When the terrorists flew into the WTC buildings a couple of months later I was mortified and a bit wary of a knock on the door from the FBI wanting to talk. No LEO ever reached out to me though.

Microsoft flight simulator used to have a challenge back in the day flying in between the World Trade Center buildings. After 9/11 they created a patch that would remove the buildings.

This mith exist because in Flight Simulator 2002, whoever attempted to replicate the hyjacking of the planes would be banned from Vatsim. In future games this was uptaded

Something else that automatically disproves the myth is the fact that they're not putting the twin towers in the game. They still have the new tower.

They may have had a collision on the building to start with which would make the plane explode. Removing this would alternatively stop people recreating that horrific event as the plane would now give this effect of just flying right through the building.

I've done this several times even with the original towers in place and have never been banned, and rightfully so. There are several other channels on YouTube who actually do a more professional recreation of the events and without blurring anything. Finally, there's absolutely no need to blur anything on a simulator.

For anyone confused, you’re only gonna be banned in FS2002, which was released one month after 9/11 and as a mark of respect the WTC was removed and the aforementioned ban was implemented, however only on VATSIM.

Good on them for just making you phase through the building. They know people will eventually try it. They'd have to ban a large amount of the player base if it was a bannable offense.
