What can one say about this set? I am a big fan of Richie so it isn’t easy not to be biased, having witnessed amongst many others, all his sets at TW Mannheim in the period 2005-2019. A lot has changed during this time in terms of sound moving from more traditional techno from early 2000’s into the heydays of minimal and techhouse and now moving back to a tougher sound since the last few years. Richie wasn’t an early adopter in starting to play harder in the past decennium but when he did the way he reinvented his sound without compromising the driving, energetic and deep trademark Hawtin sound is remarkable.

This set is in my opinion a testament how good techno can still be these days in a scene that is being dominated by mediocracy in terms of music selection as well as technical skills by many who are considered leading the scene. Richie is clearly on different level than all of his colleagues/competition. I was lucky enough to experience this set in person and heard him play 2 additional sets that week (Rave Rebels and Awakenings ADE Special) and this one at Shelter was without a doubt the best set of the 3 and would even consider it his magnus opus of 2021. This was definitely partially also due to the warm up by IMOGEN and Hector Oaks who both played great energetic sets, as well as the awesome sound system at Shelter (that was shining like never before during ADE) but when Richie took over it became truly magical! 🧙‍♂🪄
The built up and layering in this set is beyond superlatives and what made this set especially stand out compared to the other, shorter sets that week is that the tracks (which is a great blend of techno, acid and surely still some minimal) and mixing got more breathing space where the full potential of the tracks in combination with Hawtin’s genius skills of the Model 1 got unlocked!🔥🔥🔥

Having listened this set a-z 20+ times and counting I keep finding new details and nuances that never stop to amaze me. Looking forward to hear him play soon live again, hopefully 26 Feb in London! Cheers! (I know this is way too long but needed to get it off my chest ;)

What I admire about Artist like MR.Hawtin is he goes his own way, he is truly a pioneer an inventor he doesn't follow anyone that's why he has gained respect from fans around the world who knows this sublime difference between a pioneer and somebody who follows others

Veo todos comentarios desde otros sitios, y yo aca fiel admiradora de Argentina, debo decir que esta estapa de el es la que todos queriamos escuchar despues de verlo varias veces, eh escuchado muchos sets, y siempr el techno oscuro fue lo que mas me gusto de el, entiendo que tuvo una epoca en donde tiro mas por el tech house y rozando l ocomercial, pero creo que eso hace que sea un buen dj trasladandose para varios estilos pero sin perder su esencia.
