If Metallica's Load and ReLoad was just ONE ALBUM....

In this video, I decide to hypothetically construct Metallica's Load if they cut out all the fat, and released just the top 13-14 songs on one disc and discarded the rest.

Even though the first rule is it MUST be one CD, I'm allowing up to 4 "B-Sides" that would be hypothetically released as well with singles.

What would YOUR ideal Load album be?

While this flouts your rules (I will sincerely apologise for that), I have a pretty solid solution.

Since there are 27 songs, I realised this could be done over three discs - so forget Load and forget Reload, I present a triple album that I call Loaded.

Disc one has the classic sound, disc two has a mixed bag of classic and experimental, and disc three is more experimental.

Running-time wise, you have 46½ minutes (Disc 1), 47 minutes (Disc 2), and 62½ minutes (Disc 3 despite all songs exceeding five minutes, six songs exceeding six minutes, and the full version of The Outlaw Torn as the closer).

So without any further ado, here is the Loaded tracklist:

Now here's a more condensed version that might make for a stronger album, and I say that because I think 13 tracks, clocking in at almost 80 mins, is a little on the long side (Metallica albums post the Black Album have a tendency to overstay their welcome, and while the above tracklist doesn't do that, it may be better to not come so close to the max time limit), and 10 tracks makes the runtime more comparable to the Black Album. Leaner and meaner, all killer and no filler:

I have a hard time picking one version or the other because I don't like having to get rid of Devil's Dance on the second version (I would include it in the bonus tracks if I didn't have to abide to the 4 bonus tracks rule). I also struggle with whether Fuel should be track 2 or 9 on the second version, as I like a faster, aggressive track being the 'faux ending' to the album before The Outlaw Torn starts, since it's reminiscent of how previous albums close (Damage Inc, Dyers Eve, Struggle Within) - I should also mention that The House Jack Built is track 3 if Fuel is track 9.

Both versions I enjoy listening to, and have good songs from beginning to end.

I did a similar thing a few years ago but my rule was that it was a track vs track deathmatch. Meaning I had to choose Either Aint My Bitch or Fuel, 2x4 or Memory Remains, House That Jack Built or Devil's Dance. Here's what I ended up with:
