Показать описание
Greek, New York based composer and performer Pericles Kanaris presents a new series of performances in the Spring of 2019 at New York’s premiere World Music venue, DROM.
This series are entitled “Road to Athens”, as the New York trilogy will culminate in a concert at the prestigious NOSTOS Summer Festival at the STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION CULTURAL CENTER in Athens, Greece on June 30th. The two remaining concerts are scheduled for May 1st and June 5th, also at Drom.
Pericles Kanaris calls this “a milestone in his career” as he is focusing on original music, presenting material from two new collections of songs. One collection is inspired by classic poets such as Constantine P. Kavafy and T.S Eliot and the other by unreleased material from contemporary poets, such as Manos Eleftheriou and the younger generation of Greek poets. The repertoire also includes songs from other Greek and international artists who have inspired the composer over the years and is presented with his own, signature orchestrations.
Pericles Kanaris is joined by his band which features some of New York’s finest musicians including Ben Butler (guitars), Richard Hammond (bass), Peter Douskalis (guitars, assistant music director), Agapitos Maganaris (bouzouki, vocals), Gary Schreiner (accordion, harmonica), Giancarlo DeTrizio (drums/percussion) and Jessie Reagen Mann (cello). These world class musicians have performed with music legends such as Sting, Sir Elton John, George Michael, U2's Bono and the Edge, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Annie Lennox, and Adele. Surprise guests from the New York music scene are also featured in these concerts.
The series is presented under the aegis of the Consulate General of Greece in New York.
