I had no idea an accompanying LP set had been marketed. I still have my original copy of 28 Day Yoga, purchased 51 years ago. It was my introduction to Hatha Yoga. It offered a simple, incremental presentation that is as viable today as it was then. The physical bearing breath-work had on building core strength amazed me at that time.

His 28 day yoga exercise book is a great way to get introduced to yoga.

Excellent. Richard Hittleman was the best. I regard him as my spiritual father. I was only 14 in 1971 when his 'Yoga for Health' TV programmes were broadcast in England - and I loved them. Through Richard's inspiring teaching (including Yoga philosophy) I came to study the deeper presentations of Hindu/Buddhist philosophy of Dr. Paul Brunton (and later Tathagatagarbha Buddhism). But for me it all started with the great Richard Hittleman.
By the way, I have the original LP record of this instruction (from around 1971) called 'Yoga for Health' (produced in association with Richard's London-produced TV series of the same name). The original booklet, showing the asanas, comprised line drawings (not the photos here - which were taken from Richard's book, 'Yoga for Physical Fitness'). It seems that there was an American version of this record, and then a British one. The script spoken by Richard is largely (not totally) the same, but constitutes two different recordings by him (one done in America, the other in England, presumably).

Thank you, Aaron, for making this valuable recording available to the world again. Also wonderful is the music (not heard in the present video) by Mike Batt which accompanied the London 'Yoga for Health' TV series - and which can still be purchased, I suspect, from various online sources. It is good to play that music to engender a more meditative state of mind. The brief theme tune of the series (really striking, energising, and with a tinge of mysticism to it) was composed by Richard Hittleman himself!

I was born in 1968. I watched this series as a three year old with my mother. I actually recall watching it, and being mesmerised. Curiously it was shown in the summer in a schools television slot (which used to run all morning 0925-1300) on commercial television in the UK. It was sometimes shown in the afternoons too, when a more mainstream audience was watching. There were schools in the UK even in the state system that introduced students to yoga in the 1970s. How progressive we once were, and how far back we have returned.

My mother introduced me to yoga through Richard Hittleman. He had a show broadcast from Newark NJ WNET. I was in my early 20s and had some marshal arts training. I bought his 28 day book and still have it with my notes after 50 years. I worked up to a 30 minute head stand. Very rejuvenating!

I had a pain in my left knee for over a week which was intensifying, I turned to yoga for help. The first day I forgot I had the pain, the second day the pain was gone...literally gone. I continued the video daily until completed, today, and will start over tomorrow.
I'm very grateful! Thanks for sharing.

My first introduction to yoga was following Richard Hittleman’s tv series in the UK in the early 70’s. I had the book for years which I used when practising yoga after moving to the Netherlands.

Richard Hittleman, famed yoga guru and spiritual leader, instructor of "alternate nostril breathing, " used to smoke cigars. He'd snuff them out when students came around. When he got angry, he gave the silent treatment. Sometimes he busted out in a tantrum. He insulted people. Finally, he locked horns with the IRS in a futile, obsessive struggle and lost, and didn't live to tell about it. According to friends, Richard's illness was an embarrassment to him, and hidden even from them. Apparently, Hittleman left his family nothing. Except his ex-wife, to whom he bequeathed an impossible burden.

I use to cut my class in college to watch him, mainly for his words of wisdom at the end of the show.

At the moment you surrender to fear
You will find that even if the dreaded
Situation should arise Which most often it does not
It will never be one fraction of what the ordinary mind has imagined
You will free yourself from fear and all such images
Through your willingness to feel and experience

There can not be one that see's and one that is seen
That which see's and that which is seen are one…

Richard Hittleman's precious magic of yoga saved my health & possibly my life. Unfortunately can't find any videos with his another gem Guide to Yoga Meditation. Would be awesome to watch his presentation about this. Thanks a million & all the best. lulu x

Learned about Hatha Yoga through borrowing his book from the library back in 1971. Back then yoga was considered quite strange. I faithfully followed the yoga practices in the book and the breathing practices, learning everything that I could learn which was quite a lot. Richard Hittleman was my guru in a way and he improved my life through his teachings. Thank you for posting this as I find it so much easier to follow than flipping through my book. You've invigorated my yoga practice. BTW, was this from a record/LP?
