My soapbox has me standing somewhere near…….creativity being removed from eduction has been by design, is wasn’t an afterthought. No critical or creative thinking allowed. Ok…off my soapbox. This was such a great instructional video and I love when you nerd out with the brain science.

I love Betty Edwards book. I have the 1989 printing and recently found a 1999 version at a thrift store and couldn't resist getting it as well. How the brain works is fascinating. When I'm distracted and am pulled repeatedly back into the left brain my drawing and painting are just Mehh. When I can just get lost in my right brain and work and work, not even noticing that I have skipped meals and should be tired but I'm not, that's when I can later look at the finished work and my left side of the brain marvels that I actually created that. Like how you look at your Tibet (??) Monastery painting that you enjoy so much.

Thanks for the inspiration and reminder. I started using Betty Edwards’ book last year but was interrupted by serious family illnesses. I need to pick it up again. All my life, I’ve thought that I’m not an artist, but in the last two years, I’ve done some pen and wash drawings that amaze me! When I show them to others, they remark on my “talent, ” and I assure them it’s not talent, just “practiced seeing.”

I just found your channel, and I’m a new subscriber. Looking forward to more of your thoughts and instruction. 😃

I will definitely have to try this! I’ve always had a weird ability to write upside down and backwards. I wonder if it would translate to art? I remember I had that book probably about 30-40 years ago! 😮

You mean I should not listen to my secondary teacher who told me that I was not meant to be an artist😮
