Was that the ref that you can hear at the 3:50 mark say: “I’m gonna DQ him for knocking him out after the bell... huh?... yeah, I called the knockdown. I called the knockdown.” I have seen Mercer take much harder punches than that, and be unfazed. Something was going on with this fight. Something just wasn’t right.

Bizarre KO & stoppage. Although imo, Mercer was already past his prime since after the late '90s. Some of his best fights were in the late 80s to '90s.

That knockout did look a little suspicious. But that being said, people said the same thing after Foreman flattened Moorer, after Barrett knocked Tua on his ass, and other fights. Sometimes a guy just gets hit with the right punch. It did look like he maybe could've gotten up but chose not to. But, Briggs had some mad power and Mercer was just eating it all night. Maybe he just said f it at that point. And hell, Mercer was in his mid-40s here. Dude should've stopped fighting way before this.

I don't see what it was that took down Mercer. He's always been able to take a hard punch, then suddenly two love taps & he folds? Must have been some big $ on the line with the Mob along with instructions for Mercer.

Yeah, Im gonna say somethin was up with Briggs did hit him with unprotected shots while on the ropes, but none of them looked like bombs...maybe Mercer was just tired out? Or there was something fishy.
