The Banks children go on adventure that takes them inside of a ceramic bowl and into an animated countryside, in this fanciful scene from the new Disney sequel “Mary Poppins Returns.”

The film’s director Rob Marshall narrates a closer look at the sequence, which features Emily Blunt as the titular nanny and Lin-Manuel Miranda as the lamplighter friend of the family, Jack. Here, Marshall discusses how animators were brought out of retirement to work on the 2-D animation.

That moment when Georgie switched hats with the driver...pure magic.

If the director is reading this, I just want to thank you so much for making such a heartwarming movie, for some reason I felt like crying the entire time because it really made me feel like a child again, amazed by these gorgeous hand-drawn animations and such lovely music and vocals. Thank you.

According to IMDB, it was director Rob Marshall's intention, right from the beginning, to use hand-drawn animation for the film's animation sequences. This was due to his love for hand-drawn animation and also to pay homage to the first film. The Disney executives, on the other hand, initially wanted the film to have computer animation for its animated sequences, which infuriated Marshall. He then fought hard to convince the Disney executives to let him use hand-drawn animation, and he also argued why it would be the right choice to use for the film. Ultimately, the Disney executives gave in and allowed Marshall to use hand-drawn animation for the film.

Our hats goes off to Mr Marshall, it payed off.

Kinda sad they had to find people in retirement to do this.

Emily Blunt is taking Hollywood by storm. She is definitely quickly becoming the go-to woman for serious acting chops.

Ok, they are just showing off with that hat switch in the end.👍

Disney had to bring folks "out of retirement" to make 2D animation. Walt is spinning in his cryogenic chamber.

This is a wonderful movie! A real "feel good" movie with glorious music, fantasy, and just enough drama to even it all out. I've seen it twice and will see it again. I loved it, and I can't imagine anyone not at least enjoying it. Everything is executed perfectly. Emily Blunt is brilliant as are all of the actors but she stands out and holds the film together. It's a film that should be seen for the first time on the big screen. Go see it - you won't be disappointed. Thank you, Rob Marshall and all involved for bringing us this unique treat. It's fabulous! :)

This isn't my favorite Disney sequel/reboot, but then again, the first Mary Poppins wasn't my favorite Disney movie as a kid. But I like it almost as much as the original, and one of the key reasons is this animated sequence. I figured I'd like it from the trailer, and I was right. Just as the director said, watching hand-drawn animation from Disney after so many years of computer animation felt ironically new and refreshing.

Definitely captured the magic of the original. Walt Disney would be so

This is what I had hoped for a Winnie the Pooh production, but nothing close to this was the result

THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING! like absolutely beautiful. Most remakes and sequels are so rushed and unneeded. But THIS! breathtaking from start to end!
