Episode 2: Window Installation
In this video we cover a new way to build a window frame that we have yet to see on other DYI instructional videos for shipping container homes. We wanted to come up with a method that would require little to no welding for those that do not own expensive welding equipment. This video contains a quick run through for those with basic construction knowledge and how to run power tools, but we will also release a video that goes more into depth with a step by step explanation and will release that one soon! But for those that want to read, remember:
1. Build frame for window including the aluminum break metal with 1/8" larger than window opening around all sides of window
2. Measure the outside dimensions of your new frame and layout on the container wall where you want to cut the opening. Allow for 1/4" larger opening for the frame to fit both on height and width of frame
3. Then install frame into cut out on container making sure frame flushes to you insulation and will be tight to interior framing so that you can screw interior framing across the face of window frame
4. install the window once frame is secured / shim the window to hold it in place and fasten to frame using large wood screws.
