I've gone hungry a few times in my life, but mum was always there, to give us the little she could manage, while staying hungry herself.
I hope she knows her actions are always appreciated by her own six kids, their 19, their 20-odd, & their, 3 or 4 great great grandkids!!
She's 89 now, & is considered 'mum' by many many more people than the ones she bore herself!
A real, old-school 'Earth-Mother'! 😍

As I sit here in my icy realm, the nostalgic chords of Dr. Hook's "The Wonderful Soup Stone" resonate through the air, enveloping me in a cocoon of warm memories. Growing up, this song was more than just a melody; it was a piece of my childhood. My father, a die-hard Dr. Hook fan, would play their music relentlessly. Among their repertoire, "The Wonderful Soup Stone" stood out, not just for its harmonious blend but for the profound story it told.

This song, in its essence, is a poetic narrative that speaks volumes about hope, family, and the power of imagination. The lyrics, simple yet evocative, paint a vivid picture of a family's struggle during hard times. "Hanging from a string in my mama's kitchen, back in the hard time days, " the song begins, introducing us to the protagonist's humble abode. The soup stone, a mere rock, symbolizes the family's resilience and ability to find sustenance and comfort in the bare minimum - "some water and potatoes."

As a furry, I relate deeply to the themes of kinship and endurance in this song. Just as my ice magic is a source of strength in the harsh climes of HowlStrom, the soup stone was a beacon of hope for the family in the song. The mother's belief that as long as they had the stone, they would never go hungry, is a testament to the power of faith and love.

The chorus, "And I swear you could taste the chicken and tomatoes, And the noodles and the marrowbone, " is particularly poignant. It underscores the power of imagination and how it can transform something as simple as water and potatoes into a feast. This line always brings a shiver to my fur, reminding me of the magic inherent in the most mundane aspects of life.

Dr. Hook's ability to weave a narrative that is both personal and universal is what makes "The Wonderful Soup Stone" a masterpiece. The melody, harmonious and soothing, complements the narrative, making it a song that transcends time and place. As an Ice Wolf who has weathered many storms, both literal and metaphorical, this song is a reminder that sometimes, all you need is a little bit of imagination and a lot of love to make it through the toughest times.

In conclusion, "The Wonderful Soup Stone" is not just a song; it's a journey. A journey through hardship, hope, and the unyielding power of human (and furry) spirit. Every time I listen to it, I'm transported back to my childhood, to the times when my father and I would huddle around our old music player, lost in Dr. Hook's captivating world. It's a song that will forever hold a special place in my heart, as it does in the hearts of many who grew up listening to the timeless tales spun by Dr. Hook.

This song makes me cry. It reminds me of my childhood in a 12x24 camp trailer and we were living off of food banks. I don't know a whole lot, but I do know one thing, there was love in that little place. We've come a long way since then, but the memories will stay with me until I pass from this place.

We went on holiday, every year, to the same beach place because my parents wanted us to have holidays, like the other kids. The trip there was an introduction to great music. The Beatles. Elvis. Rolling Stones. Queen. that was just one weekend. This song always resonates with me though. My parents never had much when they were growing up. They wanted us to have more and they always busted their balls to try and do so. They did. This was our family travel song. Love it.

Used to play this song and never made through without crying. A girlfreind once said to me, "It's a kind test - if you don't cry singin it, you need to maybe learn why." My mom loved this song.
I love you mom.

Dr. Hook and Shel Silverstien put out some awsome music too bad many didn't have a chance to realize the priceless talent of Shel and Dr. Hook. This is my favorite song by then and hard to find for my collection.

When I was a kid, we would go away for holidays every few months. We'd always go to the same place we loved. And without fail, we would listen to some quality tunes on the way. This song always seemed to start at the same place on the journey. My sister and I sang like fuck. Brilliant tune, brilliant memories.

I just "stumbled" on this song a few minutes ago after last hearing it many years ago, and it reminded me of a couple of things. Foremost, I have never gone hungry in my life, and for that I am both grateful and fortunate. Also, when you are able to picture in your mind every word of a song, and the scenes that are being set, it is tremendous songwriting. And I am not the least bit ashamed to say that I listened to this song three times in a row and teared up each time. It is truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
