So Rand Paul believes in keeping the Fed out of marriage and making it a state issue. He also believes that same sex couples should get all the governmental benefits that comes with traditional marriage and be treated equally. Sounds good to me. How people bash on him for this issue makes no sense.

So, now people are mad because he wants to preserve religious freedom of practice and still pass gay marriage laws? Thus practicing separation of Church and State.

The government shouldn’t be involved in marriage to begin with.

As a gay man, I actually like his stance on marriage. The government should not be in the marriage business. leave it up to the churches to define it, and give every union the same benefits under law. it's not a hard concept, and is one we should've started with a long time ago.

Gay marriage isnt gonna somehow make tradttional marriage go away

Both the interviewer (0:07) and Rand (0:38) said he believed gay marriage should be left for the States to decide. He also stated traditional and gay marriage can both be preserved, as personal opinion. There's no reason to be mad about his take on a social issue when there're tons of other problems for this country to solve

WHY DO PEOPLE WANNA GET MARRIED THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT ANYWAY?

What he's saying, or trying to at least, is that the Government should have no say in who you marry. They shouldn't even know who you marry because marriage has always been a church/religious event. It only became political when it became convenient for taxes.

The solution is simple: Abolish the concept of government-recognized marriage entirely. Do not give special privileges and tax breaks based on an arbitrary status such as "marriage", "civil union", or "domestic partnership".

Wow, it's been over 6 years since CNN had a real interview, what a disgusting disgrace this network has turned into

The government shouldn’t be involved in marriage if you are a real libertarian

The term ''marriage'' is NOT exclusive to religion. Marriages took place prior to religious origins

as a child, I was taught that politicians serve and represent the public. now as an adult voting for the first time, I'm disappointed to know that they only serve and represent themselves and their personal beliefs. I was taught wrong. no wonder a lot of us don't vote.

The solution to the whole gay marriage debate is simple:  Get the government completely out of defining marriage and the marriage business, end marriage licenses, and let people voluntarily associate with and enter into any consensual contract with another person no matter what they want to call it.

Translation: "I don't want to alienate the conservative base by supporting LGBT rights, but I also don't want to alienate Millennials who overwhelmingly support the idea.  Basically, I'm between a rock and a hard place and I wish you would just stop asking me about it."

Don't think Americans are in any position to say what's right or wrong about gay marriage. Majority of them can't even get through their 1st marriage.

ok guys, let's settle down now. He may not like gay marriage, but the way he talks about marriage in general is very libertarian in that he wants to allow them to get married anyway.
