Osprey Talon 22 Rucksack Review - The BEST Hiking Backpack?

Here is my Osprey Talon Review. This is a great multipurpose osprey rucksack suitable for walking, hiking and cycling. The osprey talon 22l rucksack is light at 810 grams. Although this is a smaller osprey talon rucksack it is still a good size at 51cm x 28cm x 28cm.

By far the best feature is the full ventilated Airscape mech back panel. Its great all year round but excels on hot days.

This is a really comfortable hiking rucksack perfect for long days.

The talon range includes some nice features including a helmet clip for cycling and trekking pole attachment for walking.

The new osprey talon rucksack has just been released. If you have the money for the 2021 osprey talon rucksack then go for that one. If you are more money conscious I would try and pick up this osprey rucksack in the sales.

Full features include:
AirScape mesh covered accordion foam back panel
Seamless lumbar to hipbelt body wrap
ErgoPull hipbelt closure
Sternum strap with emergency whistle
Front Power Mesh stash pocket
Zipped hipbelt pockets
Side stretch pockets with InsideOut compression
Inside panel zipped mesh pocket
Zipped pocket at top
Blinker light attachment
External hydration sleeve
LidLock bike helmet attachment
Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment
Ice tool attachment loop
Weight: 810g for size medium / large

Thanks, Andy.

Please note the amazon link is what everyone sees and pays but I receive a miniscule finders fee when people use the link. It all goes back into backpacking gear!

Another value-added feature of Osprey bags is their lifetime guarantee! Had mine repaired for free when a buckle snapped after many years of use. It was returned looking like new. Excellent customer service! I have had my Talon now for around 12 years. 😀

The Talon 22 is my favorite daypack and biking/hydration backpack. 👍🏼

Don’t forget mention the secret whistle built in to the chest strap!!
It’s a great high pitched whistle in case of emergency.

You get what you pay for. It just depends what you want. For the fit alone, and lightness, these are so valuable. I’ve worn my old Talon 18 out now and have used it pretty much every day for 10 years. I’m trying to decide whether to go up to a 22 or a 24L.

I'm about your size. Currently, there' are only a S/M and L/XL options. You mentioned getting "M/L" -- is that no longer offered, or did you mean L/XL?

Hello @BackpackingUK, I was wondering if the Talon 22 is somewhat foldable? I have also seen the Stratos24, and it offers much more value at a lower price. But due to the metal rack, it is not at all foldable, which can be a bit difficult when taking it on an airplane. Kind regards!

Those drain holes you mention, are actually for clipping a rear small bike light on the bag for those night bike rides. 😊👌🏼👍🏼

Thanks for your review, very insightful. You didn't mention your height... the bag looks big next to you... the water bladder pocket looks nearly separate from the rest of the bag... it looks like it's only bladder pocket us attached to the shoulder straps, the rest of the bag just tangling somewhere. .. it's not annoying?

Thanks for the video. Bought the pack and love it.

I think it should come with a waterproof cover as standard. I have an Osprey Syncro 12 and that has a cover. I’m now looking for a larger backpack to carry some larger items, but it has to be either waterproof or has a cover.

Those aren't drain holes. It's a mounting point for a bike light.

Just looking for a cheaper alternative to the rltalon 22, I'm doing a 35 hike across northern spain Sep/Oct, I'm a 5ft 2 in female, I've got a berghaus free flow 30 +6 but unfortunately the decisions are too big for carry on Height40cm max allowed on carry on, I'm only carring 6kg in weight, Thanks in advance

It's all about how they fit you... Osprey or Gregory makes awesome pack but best way is to try them... I did try the Osprey talon 22 vs the Gregory Miwok 24... almost the same except 2L and minor things but overal the same.... they are both amazing packs but The gregory was fitting better on me... But the Talon 22 is an awesome pack... Many of my friends are using it.

Great video - bought the Talon 22, the hip straps sit above my hips inline with my mid-stomach. Its the Large size, however would you say its too short for me?
Cheers, Stanners

Great video mate! I bought this one and a Lowe Alpine Active 22 and I'm now trying to decide which one to keep. Price difference aside, I do prefer the Talon 22, but the water compartment has got me worried. Does it not have any kind of cover or am I missing something? That will get wet even on a light shower... Do you have any comments on this? Has that given you any kind of issues? Any help would be much appreciated 👍

I got the grey version of this a few months ago for hillwalking. I absolutely love it.

It is pricey but it’s such a nice bag and perfect fit. I got it on offer at wiggle for £100.

Great channel mate. Just watched a lot of your reviews. Thinking of getting the osprey kestrel 48 you have for wild camping ✌️
