My top 5 Fountain Pens under $30

For the under 30 range (and over, say, 20), my favorite is the Pilot Prera Iro-Ai. These come with the Con 40 converter, which is nothing to write home about, but the overall quality is great. Great nibs, great caps both in capping the pen and posting. Compact but with a very comfortable grip size for my hand.

I bought the Muji aluminium body with a converter, love it. Thats under $30 I think.

Pens I like that are Great for the price : Pilot Kakuno, Majohn p136, wingsung 630, Noodlers Konrad, Admok m800/ m400, majohn a2, Twsbi Swipe, Pilot Petit1, :) Hope that helps :)

Hey I have a 308, which I got to try out a Waverley nib. When I first used it, I wondered why aren't ALL nibs Waverleys.

for the under 30 range my go to would be a diplomat magnum. it's a little skinny for me, but the nib is incredible and way nicer than what you'd expect for a pen of the 25 dollar class. I'd super underrated. If I could go back and restart my fountain pen journey, I'd start with the magnum for sure.

I pretty much settled on getting the Pilot Prera after first trying out a couple different nibs on the Hongdian H3, since I now have a couple inks working out really well in the shorter M2. Then, maybe Lamy Safari Steel Black, try a few more inks, then maybe write/draw some greeting cards with an Asvine J16 Titanium. Looking for a water-resistant medium-dark red and green.

Many sub-$30 pens are significantly more than £30 here in the UK; my favourite pen that is still available here under £30 is the Hongdian Forest series, and the Hongdian M2 pocket pen which I like much better than the Kaweco Sport.

i was looking at a pelikan jazz elegance white model way back when i think it's smol but mighty, i didn't get one i got a amazon basics, heh, no i got two Parker Jotters or two Kaweco Sports, similar price ranges though

One thing that stands out regarding the Kaweco Sport is their calligraphy nibs. They’re not quite as sharp as a dip pen or the Pilot Parallel, but they’re pretty close. Much better than Lamy. You can’t beat the Sport for its versatility and price.

I’m glad you’re an artist, not an accountant - your addition for the Kaweco should have totaled 34, not 27. But nice video 😊

I'm being a bit nit-picky, but the Lamy you showed is an AL-star, not an LX. The finial and clip on the LX match the color of the pen.

I love the look and feel of the Kaweco Sport...but all three Kaweco nibs I own have baby's bottom. And of course they have to make their nibs shorter than everyone else's so I can't even swap in a new nib without serious modifications. Kinda turned me off of the brand.
