Drake Maye Is Already Breaking The Rules..

The New England Patriots are heading into the 2024 NFL season with a very interesting situation in their quarterback room. Rookie Drake Maye has done more than impress so far in his time in the 2024 NFL preseason, yet Jacoby Brissett might still get the nod as the starter from HC Jero Mayo and OC Alex Van Pelt. However regardless of that, with everything seen out of Drake Maye within the Patriots offense so far in his NFL career, there are some things to discuss that not many others seem to be covering.

To start with the New England Patriots offense, it’s a unit that has a lot of questions that still need answering. The Patriots offensive line has been their biggest area of concern regardless of who is in at quarterback. But with what Drake Maye has done with this offense in surrounding pieces like Kendrick Bourne, rookies Ja’Lynn Polk & Javon Baker, Tyquan Thorton, Demario Douglas, Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, KJ Osborn and even running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson, the weapons have showed good promise with what Drake Maye has given them.

Then in terms of the Patriots defense, this is another side of the ball where focus is all around. Being headlined by pieces in Christian Gonzalez, Jabrill Peppers, Kyle Dugger, Keion White, Marcus Jones, etc, there are definitely questions that still need to be answered on this side of the ball as well. But nonetheless, the ultimate decision that the Patriots will end up making regarding the new face of their franchise in Drake Maye is what the NFL world is waiting on.

The things that gets me the most excited as a Patriots fan is his movement in the pocket and how he keeps his eyes downfield

The question at this point isn't whether or not he's better than Brisett. The question now is whether or not he'll be better off in the long run if he starts this year. I do expect that he'll become the starter this year even if it's not week 1. I like Brisett, but he's obviously a bridge guy. He's going to have down games, and when that happens, people are going to be calling for Maye. I would say sit him, but it would be good to get him in there near the end of the season to give him some real NFL experience before next season.

Yeah, red shirt him. I know that sucks, but just have a terrible season, draft one of the elite LTs, draft a good RT, then start him next year. If you can upgrade the WR core next year, cool, but the WRs are good enough now, I think to function with. Just need to upgrade that line. Oh and get a new C to replace Andrews but that's much easier than LT to do. Good Cs available later on in drafts usually just due to how that position is less versatile typically.

Drake Maye got better in every preseason game and is gonna be a great quarterback!the Pats ar best could end up 9-8 if Maye plays but more likely will be lucky if they win 6 games.

The offensive line is the worst in the NFL. Brissette is on the roster to take a beating. Maye looked awesome against guys who mostly got cut.
Playing Maye in the opener would be a NY Jets-level move

This kid has the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this draft class. And it’s not even debatable you cannot throw him to the wolves. You treat him right he’ll be the best quarterback in the AFC East for 20 years to come.

If I were the Pats, and having the questionable QB protection they have, plus having a Bengals defense with a knife between their teeth, I would also skip the risk. Brisset will love to play because he is a tough player, but one of his eyes will on the Bengals DL trying not to blink…and he will blink. Great and fun analysis video, by the way.👏👏

Drake Maye is something special the Patriots had a diamond fall to them. Their not putting that diamond behind a glass wall. Smart move coach Mayo. I respect his decision and I am starting to think he's going to be a very successful coach. This is a throw away year why risk getting the future of your franchise hurt? If you think Drake is good now wait until they can protect the guy and give him a top tier receiver.
