Interstate 805: Highway to the Danger Zone?

Interstate 805 is a good alternative around San Diego for LA-Mexico traffic while also serving inland San Diego neighborhoods. It buzzes past the former home of TOPGUN and involves some cool engineering!

Based on the comments, the number of people who don't realize Todd knows full well the Chargers have moved to LA and is making a joke about Jack Murphy stadium in this video is far greater than it should be.

Man, that bit about the Chargers old stadium went above a lot of people's heads.

5:00 that’s my exit, it used to be its own designated state route known as CA-274 “Balboa Ave” until around 15-20 years ago, there’re still some remnants including older caltrans signs for balboa avenue where the route marker had clearly been covered over, there is also a caltrans style sign at intersection of balboa and mission bay dr in pacific beach signing “to Clairemont”. Older gps maps also still show it as CA-274

Literally every time I’m on the 805 I sing the danger zone song in my head because it truly is the danger zone.

9:45 Cross Border Xpress is a parking lot and terminal for people to enter Mexico and take flights from the Tijuana Airport, which is right up against the border.

Thank you for getting right into the content and no commercials - amazing. Ha ha, “The Murph”. The 805 ruined where we used to ride dirt bikes in Kearny Mesa, and the freeway noise travels through the canyons where it crosses the 15 - kinda a buzz kill when sitting outside enjoying a sunset…

@9:53 The CBP is the Customs area for people flying out of Tijuana. It's a faster way to cross the border if you arrive or depart by airplane from Tijuana Airport.
I haven't seen any signs for trucks crossing the border on the commercial customs area, except the one you show indicating all trucks must exit.

Ca-163 is old US 395. Escondido was probably the control city from that far back

Hot damn, Todd! Your choices for how to sign The 805 are what I suggested ages ago at a Caltrans Public Meeting. Great minds think alike. :) Hope you had a great Thanksgiving last week.

Fun(?) fact for I-376 if you didn't already know: half of it used to be I-279. The Parkway West (from downtown over the Ft. Pitt Bridge, out to I-79) was originally signed as 279 since it and the Parkway North connected to the parent at both ends. I-376 was only on the Parkway East and was a spur off the Turnpike from Monroeville.

When the upgraded PA-60 to interstate standards west of the airport up to the Turnpike near the Ohio state line, they renamed the Parkway West and the upgraded section to I-376. So now I-279 is a spur with an even number and I-376 is a (half) loop with an odd number.

If you go on street view on the Turnpike and view old images of the exit 10 sign (I think it's exit 10) you can go back in time and see where they put a new shield over the old PA-60 keystone until the sign was replaced.

That small stadium you we're referring to Todd, that's actually not where the Chargers play anymore that's the home for the San Diego State University football team, the Chargers moved to LA in 2016. Quite frankly they should still be in San Diego

I have a request for IH 610 in Houston, it would be exit 38 for state highway 288 because i use that state highway to get to my uncle's house!
Also a question, do you have plans on making the best control cities in each state video, basically a sequel to the worst control cities video?
Thanks!

6:05 - Todd indiscretly calls out the year I was born.

A time to make Todd feel old 😆

San Diego…the only place in California that I have ever been to! I just remember being on a very small portion of I-5 to go from the Marines base to an In-and-Out Burger and then back to our hotel.

That stadium is Snapdragon Stadium where San Diego State plays. Of course it is on the site of the Old Jack.

@3:38 Note that the Chargers moved to Los Angeles in 2017. Jack Murphy (Qualcomm) Stadium has since been demolished and the SDSU Snapdragon Stadium has been built in its place.
