We all know that learning the drums is not an easy thing to do. It has been made infinitely harder in the past 10 years with the invention of smart devices. They are with us all of the time. And while they can be used as tools...they can also be used as weapons to destroy your practice time. It has been very hard for me to explain this to my drum students, Drum Better Daily members, and social media followers over the years. So I feel the best way is to simply demonstrate what they do to our brains during our drum practice time.

If you want to see the progress you know you can in your practice time, you have to make extreme changes to some of your behavior. Don't make learning the drums harder than it should be.

Also, I'm speaking to myself on this as well.

Dude! Great stuff! Those tests are great! I started laughing about half way through the last one. I was close but "dead wrong." Haha.

I will say in regards to all those other things, time, money, talent and education a lack of them can be a serious distraction and very real challenges to adapt to and overcome.

Once again great vid even though I failed the last two but makes a good point on trying to many things at once, I practice for an hour a day but only 3 things in that hour, and that is the beat, rudiments, and single stroke rolls

Hello Stephen, what a great video! As a self taught drummer I didn't study proper technique in the first years of drumming and it's the reason why my hand technique sucks. It has been a rocky road because my hands don't work symmetrically and it lead to a point where I got really depressed and stopped drumming for two years. Now that I think of those two years it really felt like something was missing.
Now I've been drumming for a month again and oh boy, it feels so good, even with horrible technique! Do you have any tips for "hard reseting" hand technique? Do I have to start hitting rudiments really slowly and work my way up? Sorry if my language is stiff, English is my second language. Thank you and have a good one.
