IEEE SIGHT Webinar: Engaging Youth with Agrivoltaics Citizen Science and Community Engineering

Показать описание
This webinar explores how engineers and schools can collaborate to engage young students in real work with real consequences for themselves, their communities, and the globe. Convinced that middle school students can play powerful roles in imagining sustainable energy futures for their communities, we partnered with IEEE and the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) to develop a school-based agrivoltaics (agriculture + photovoltaics) citizen science program for middle school youth attending a Title 1 school in Phoenix Arizona. Teachers and faculty supported students as they not only learn about engineering, energy systems and agriculture, they also…
• contribute to the science of engineering. Using a data acquisition device built by their teacher, students collect and analyze environmental data to compare conditions in their school garden with and without solar panels.
• contribute to their community through energy engineering. Students decide community purposes for their gardens, make decisions about what crops to grow, and use the engineering design process to improve their garden and enhance their community.
