According to research, our leaders tend to engage in leadership without formal training during their first ten years of leadership experience. Trying to produce results in such untouched territory often leads to negative outcomes. Leadership training is invaluable, but it usually falls short of reaching each leader's unique world and internal dynamics, so not every training touches every leader. When training fails to connect, the leaders don't see the transformation they hope for. Coaching, on the other hand, provides leaders with tailored leadership training focused on developing individual leadership skills. While our leaders are very focused on developing their intellectual intelligence in their areas of expertise, we often see them holding back from approaching areas that are key to success in any part of life, namely their emotional intelligence. Therefore, we view coaching as a tool for self-leadership training, expecting our leaders to fully embrace their lives, transform their potential into capacity, and replicate these skills with the people they influence.
