SO FOR ANYONE CONFUSED..Utah hasn’t had the strong winters we are known for in years past.. Elk are extremely resilient and can handle winters fairly well, but this year the snow has been really deep and people aren’t used to seeing ELK this far down out of the mountains and the ELK aren’t used to seeing people this close as the deep snow has pushed them down towards the valley. These newer generations of ELK above Salt Lake City are seeing this all (for the most part) for the first time, as are the people from years past.

I live in elk country and NEVER tire of seeing these magnificent animals.

I believe that was a park ranger who was just looking out for the safety of both the elk and the motorists.

The elk only jumped back across the barrier because it read the sign Right Lane Ends.

For a little background, the Elk were driven down from the mountains into the city due to heavy snowfall and the whole herd was chilling out on a golf course for a couple months.
Eventually they needed to move the Elk back up into the mountains so they closed I-80 to drive the elk out of the city and back into the mountains where they belong. That’s why you see the dude running behind the herd.

This is actually really heartbreaking…
The elk are just confused. Their home is not home anymore. We as humans have taken so much from wildlife. I hope all of the elk were safe. Be kind to animals and remember that we all share the same planet that we all call home.

That's why bridge underpass or overpass are so important for animal crossings.

We've interrupted their migration patterns so much they don't know where to go. Also this shouldn't be scary for you, but I can tell you it was terrifying for them. 😢
We really need to make land bridges for animals.
