I respected this man so much, but I must say, after living all over Asia, I all I saw was grown adults all the way up ton80 years old still squatting deep while performing tasks like cooking and smoking while gambling on the street etc. Remember I got more used to it because I used to hang out with them and got used to squatting deeper for longer periods as well. It also has to do with ankle and hip flexibility too. On this explanation I disagree on some of his explanation, because I saw it and experienced it over 8 years total Singapore, Malasia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Bali, Thailand and 5 of them in Japan solid.

I think realizing that we all have different bodies, is so important! I may have to spread my legs farther apart to do a deep squat like that…compare to someone else! We need to learn to give ourselves a little grace!!

I’m of Nordic and British decent mostly American 6’2 and my bones or genetics have never stopped my squat mobility progression. Hip flexor, glute, and quad muscles stop me. Stretching and dynamic exercises such as running/sprinting or sports have improved mobility for me.
