Why do those of us ADHD love to daydream? It is because it's a quiet space for the mind to come to clarity on some things and can be a major benefit helping to effectively regulate the ADHD brain.

I think I really have ADHD.
1. I have maladaptive daydreaming.
2. I'm so energetic in my daydream.
3. Forgetful
4. Clumsy
5. Irresponsible and irritable
6. Can't focus, literally. I have to look at something so closely to focus though I have very good eyesight.
7. I can't stay still on my seat. I have to move my body.
8. Masking all the aforementioned.

Let me share the experience I just went through in the last 10 or so minutes:

1. Browsing through videos on youtube
2. Begins to daydream something unrelated
3. Shocked at how I started that train of thought
4. Searched "Daydreaming and ADHD"
5. Begins watching video
6. Begins daydreaming
7. Realizes I did it again, face in palms!

If I didn't daydream I'd think I was dead 😂

Day dreaming has been with me all of my life. Mostly "piloted". Intrusive thoughts though are more problematic. I can rationalize them but they're still a nuisance. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks for this video and for the gorgeous background. I love it. And the pop up words were helpful too. ❤

Great video! I like your idea of setting aside a regular window of time to daydream instead of collapsing into the dream under stress. I hope that becoming more mindful about when I feel the need to escape will help me turn my maladaptive daydreaming into plain old immersive daydreaming. Thanks for the sage advice :D

I thought I was dissociating due to ptsd until I was diagnosed 20 years later with adhd. I still question and am confused by the similarities. I did have the typical report card comments of adhd kids "not paying attention, talking to much, not working to potential" etc.

Post central gyrus is the part of the brain responsible for proprioception and awareness of our surrounding, weakened proprioception can effect us to lack the deep sense of surrounding and awareness

Do you have any thoughts about the The subject of reward phenomenon. It happens when somebody has a dose of dopamine by thinking a creative project and feeling like if just because it was conceptualized in the brain it was already triggered a satisfaction feeling. I feel like I can have a Lords of the Ring script Idea on my head and feel wonderful that I have it but when it comes to putting it on paper, before the obvious ADHD traits would stop an activity I've already felt the sensation that I've experienced completing it. My theory is that it's connected to daydreaming a sensation so inertly that my body distorts that reality as if I've done the task already, therefore as a result robbing me from motivation to do it at all.

I have adhd combined type. My daughter is adhd inattentve and appears daydreamy, lazy and aloof. I feel so bad for her, but recognize my H is differnet to hers as I am active on the outside and she isn't. We hope she will be able to get medicines, the first she tried had too many side effects. It's not easy. She has hopes and wants for her future, but noone else but her can

Actually i am a student of 17 years from India..and I had this sort of dreaming since years..sometimes i lose time of my productive hours of something so trivial as this. Unless i am pressured i do not study or work efficiently as long as i dont truly want to do it i cant. I also have immense anxiety and get into addiction and distractions pretty fast. Which is why i have deleted almost all of social media. But still i have this daydreaming problem..my mind is not stopping whatsoever i try to do

If we have habitual interrupted sleep, is daydreaming a means for the brain to recover from the lack of sleep?

My first and second grade teachers were older and more experienced (one taught my uncle, suspected ASD/ADHD) and allowed me to daydream/listen while staring out the window and used a phrase to get the classes attention to pay attention to the blackboard. I did well in those grades, third grade was a different matter - I was not allowed to daydream nor was my advanced work accepted so I decided to just pass each grade.

BTW ASD and ADD/ADHD were rarely diagnosed in the late 50's if you could manage in class, otherwise you went to a separate school or were sent to a 'mental hospital'.

I have BPD (the discouraged type) and ADHD (the inattentive type). I just recently got diagnosed with both these disorders; and they are so similar in nature. I am REALLY struggling, and I fear this overwhelming stress, and my inability right now to cope (I just started treatment) is literally going to kill me. Sometimes my heart hurts so badly, I feel like it is just going to shut down from emotional explosion.
