SiriusXM is a north American standard over in Europe its DAB+

And no the frequency of the of the Motors does not interfere they just felt it wasn't needed anymore so they got rid of it

Every local AM station is available in my Tesla either on their digital fm alt or tunein station.

In norway we got am, fm, dab and dab+ in our teslas

All the electronics and motors noise can interfere with AM frequency but it doesn't mean Tesla shouldn't have AM radio. I think ESD protection should prevent inference. necessarily AM

Wrong. It's because it's cheaper to make them without AM. MCU1 Teslas had AM. Lost it with MCU2 but had the option of adding the module for like $500.

I remember seeing somewhere that there is a bill trying to be passed to make it a legal requirement for car manufacturers in the us to keep AM in all cars for safety reasons like if FM towers or satellites went down or whatever

AM radio is occasionally important, like when you see those signs on the side of the road saying tune a certain station for traffic and weather info

AM has a very similar frequency as electricity and that’s why you hear the buzzing when you go near electrical lines

Seriously I've barely listened to FM radio in 4yrs, and do not miss it at all.
SOOO much easier to just select nearly ANYTHING from streaming slacker, no ads, and if I don't like song, I just skip it immediately. Voice control to search for those, favorites etc.
Most radio stations globally FM & AM are on TuneIn, plus lots of blogs/news channels, can listen there easily, again can save favorites w/ free account.
Oh, and I have ALL my ripped/bought MP3s on USB stick, also, in great quality.

Note, you DO have to pay $10/mo or $100/yr for streaming service, which covers the car LTE mobile data... also other features like google satellite photos on GPS map (very cool), live traffic display, plus... VIDEO streaming while parked, eg YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc. Handy for quick video while charging if you already got snack/potty break

AM is important for emergencies as all the other modes are dependent on the internet with the exception of FM that has a very short range.

Fun fact. The mcu 1 has AM radio but is removed if you upgrade to mcu 2 (intel)
