Installing microwave with external vent

Didn’t see any done this way so figured I’d take a few clips and throw them up. Didn’t have much time to explain but i can list out steps and materials if wanted. Made a overlapping rectangular vent so it was easier to install into wall, foam around then install the exterior vent hood on with inch trim piece milled out on backside for j channel. Then taped and foamed all seams to minimize/eliminate cold air from coming in.

Hi! Was wondering if you still have the model (link) of the wall cap you use here. Does it have a damper and bird screen that's easy to remove? I found the Broan Nutone 639 but the damper and bird screen is hard to remove so its impossible to air seal (tape) the wall cap to the duct. Thanks!

The job is first class!!! But I'd like to take that vent off after 10yrs of cooking time and see if there is any water damage. That tape won't hold up because of moisture and temp differential, mastic tape next time. How and the heck do you flash that vent hood lip. You would need to completely encapsulate the opening in the wall and have a seal around the hood and because I have the same stupid microwave and hood disassemble and install foam seals on both dampers cause they leak air and condensate water in microwave and clank in the wind. Really what a dumb invention. Pay to have it go up and out or better yet get an offset duct and drop the vent down below the exit of microwave. Cut the sheet metal sleeve 2" longer and bend edges inside and out Install a foam rubber seal inside of house around microwave opening. Seal the duct outside with caulking tightly. Wish I had all my tools and a TV crew. Lol

Why would someone want an external vent for a microwave?
