"The only thing deadlier than a hedgehog is a hedgehog made of metal. Having understood this fundamental axiom, the designers of Sonic 3 & Knuckles made the final boss you must defeat as Knuckles a sinister metallic robot version of Sonic."

I cannot get over how perfectly written and delivered this line is!

"I don't know what that lesson is, but I feel like there's one in there somewhere" is a mood I live in everyday. Thanks Jane, I feel heard

Really, at 7:28, more power to Jane for being able to say "That's where they put the cockpit" with a stone straight

You guys will take any excuse to play that Dracula quip in a video, and I love you for it. Never change.

Jane's brief pause in "that's where they put the...cockpit" is perfect comic timing.

Also, "You're going to find the encounter with Anubis curiously low-key"...no, he's from an entirely different pantehon.

“An accent I would describe as Scott-ish”

Brilliant.

My favorite ploy is when a boss appears and is immediately killed by an even worse boss.

Borderlands 2 has a good example. After a long and emotional slog through the game you finally confront Handsome Jack in a fairly decent boss battle. And instead of rolling the credits, a battered and bloodied Jack manages to activate The Warrior and you get the real final battle. After defeating the Warrior, then you get to kill Jack... or let Lilith do it. Honestly, let the lady do the honors. She deserves it.

In Sekiro shadows die twice in three of the game's three endings you fight Genichiro Ashina again armed with a mortal blade of his own, and while defeating Genichiro is pretty easy he realizes that he can't defeat you on his own and uses his own life force to summon his grandfather Isshin Ashina in his physical prime to fight you who is a much more challenging opponent.

The "At least we've seen the last of him" then "My mistake" is a feeling any gamer understands completely 😆

Thank you for including that bit from Dracula's speech. No clip showing SOTN would be complete without it.

Concerning names: you may be interested to know that Jehuty is an alternative spelling of the Egyptian god Thoth, fitting neatly in the line along with Neith, Ardjet (Wadjet), Nephtis (Nephtys) and of course Anubis.

Btw this is also my tactic as the player when FIGHTING a video game boss. They defeat me and think: "Huh that was easy." Only then I come back again (safepoint) stronger than ever and the real fight begins! Or the next one. Or the one after that...Everything as planned

Miyazaki needs to get Andy on as a consultant for the next from game as boss namer. The Xylophonic Bone (hehe) Collosus is just too good to not be a thing lol
Edit: 7:30 Jane saw that low hanging fruit and grabbed with both hands lmao

I’d have put Shantae Half Genie Hero: Hypno Baron/Squid Baron fight on the list. First you’re fighting Squid Baron, who’s a pretty easy fight over all. He jumps around, makes some shockwaves, you hit him and he explodes. But then Hypno Baron decides that you can’t leave just yet, you need to fight a powered up Squid Baron AND himself, making the fight go from pretty easy to “Dear God I’m sorry can you PLEASE NOT” difficulty.

A double whammy: The first Slash and Flea boss fights from Chrono Trigger.

Flea uses an imposter common enemy (Flea???) which saps your MP before the real fight starts.
Slash is an impressive physical boss with great speed, and after a brief pause in the fight picks up the sword on the wall to really do damage to the party.

What if there was a boss that no one knew was a boss at first and they just thought they were fighting a normal enemy, but suddenly it turns out to be the main villain

Mother Brain at the end of Super Metroid. At first you might think it's just a repeat of the fight from the original Metroid game, but upon "defeating" her, she suddenly has a cyborg body and much stronger attacks. And you can't even kill her until the baby metroid gives you the Hyper Beam

How many takes did it take for Jane to say cockpit without laughing?

The Tinker Knight from Shovel Knight. He’s trivially easy to beat the first time around, and then he gets into his giant mech suit.
