My Story – Inspiring Journey of a Serial Entrepreneur Featuring Rajiv Khemani – building infrastructure semiconductor companies to power the Web!

Naveen Bisht, Chair, My Story Program, TiE Silicon Valley
Cloud, mobile, and AI applications demand high performance, security, and energy-efficiency at massive scale. Semiconductors are essential for making this happen. But semiconductor-based startups targeting infrastructure face many challenges. They need lots of capital and have little room for error. So how can you create leading, innovative companies in this space?
Rajiv Khemani and his co-founders did it by founding Innovium in 2014, when the cloud infrastructure market was just beginning to explode. They had a vision to start from scratch and meet the needs of these data centers, with innovations like higher scale, lowest latency, programmability, and analytics. They realized that the network-switching silicon that customers used for the cloud was designed for the enterprise and other segments, and hence, it presented a compelling opportunity. Innovium became a significant supplier to leading cloud customers in building out their architectures. The company was acquired by Marvell for over $1.2B in 2021, allowing Marvell to participate in the fastest growing segment of the switch market with a cloud and AI-optimized solution.
Before Innovium, Rajiv was COO at Cavium, a leading provider of infrastructure semiconductors for networking, mobile and security applications. Now, he is at it again, co-founding Auradine, another infrastructure startup. Auradine has raised an $81M Series A round to drive scalability, security, and sustainability for blockchain, privacy, and security applications.
