Social Security is not going to be ‘insolvent’ as Rep. Byron Donalds told Joy Reid on The ReidOut. Rep. Krishnamoorthi explains to Joy, "Look at last year. The S&P was down 20 percent. Just imagine if we had invested that Social Security trust fund in the stock market in any given year, and you experience that type of loss."

Why don't they ask Congress to pay back the loans they took from Social Security and put it back in the trust?

social security MUST be protected, enhanced and increased

My social security is my entitlement & not a "benefit", as I am most certainly entitled to monies I payed into social security for over a half century specifically for this purpose, it's mine, ergo, I'm definitely entitled to it.

This is about forcing Americans to stay in the workforce, until you drop.
This is also a push for corporations to remove their contributions to our social security retirement fund.

THANK YOU! I have been poor my whole life, but I paid in to the Social Security system regardless. I was promised that if I did so, I would be able to one day have enough money set aside to be able to afford to retire. I find it alarming that anyone calls my benefits anything except for what they are: mine. I find it angering that any millionaire thinks that 65 isn't old enough to retire. Shame on the bureaucrats for alarming and angering the people who should be able to retire in peace, after having done their part their whole lives.

Congress needs to pay back the Trillion or Two they stole from the SS Fund. Republicans want to put Grandma and Grandpa out on the street with no Health Care. Why do Seniors vote for their own demise?

What the GOP stands for has nothing to do with taking care of the people, especially our elders

Remove the cap on social security and it will fix the problem. That limit was set in 1950’s when average income was $3000 a year.

Social security (fica) is collected on the first $160, 000 of a person's annual income. Increase that to $500, 000 and there is no problem with Social Security insolvency. End of story! Most working people would not even be impacted.

If you paid into it then you have the right to collect it

The old people vote in great numbers and the GOP wants to touch their funds - can you say electoral wipe-out.

Don't raise the cap; ELIMINATE the cap. All income should be subject to Social Security taxes. Then benefits can be raised to a level that supports beneficiaries properly.

I am disabled I started working at 14, and kept on working until my Drs made sure I stopped working 31 years later. I paid in to social security with every paycheck. Even with the raise we just got I am only getting 599.00 a month plus medicare. The only reason I'm not living on the streets is because my husband can still work, but it's not like he gets paid big bucks, so his social security will also be really low. Every winter where I live they set up camps for the homeless, every year there are more of the special little buildings and tents supplied to the homeless in the like homeless city that are city makes so we don't have people freezing to death on the streets. I already know a lot of them are people on social security but don't make enough for rent, let alone food. We are also talking about seniors that don't even make enough to be able to stay in a nursing home. The republicins just keep showing how greedy they are.

Social Security helps average working class Americans. Republican politicians hate that.

Do you know how many Americans are on SS now, and are living in poverty?

Just imagine how much more money would be in the SS COFERS IF THE WEALTHY HAD TO ACTUALLY PAY TAXES!

If millionaires and billionaires paid taxes we wouldn't even have this conversation.

thank u Joy. AS a 58 year old who has been paying into this fund since I started working at 16, ..I don't expect much and I HOPE to work till I am 70, ..I need that little bit of cushion till I die. I have a very small pension from work and I am proud to say I have been a hard working American ALL of my life, paying taxes and all I really want is just some peace when I retire. Nothing fanciful, but just some peace so I do not have to worry about how I will be able to pay for my rent. food and medication.

Where do Republicans get their information.? They also want to get rid of the income tax and go to a consumer tax which would only hurt us poor people
