How To Clean Linoleum Floors!

In this video I will be showing how to clean linoleum floors. If your linoleum floors have been neglected for years and have stains or buildup, I will give you a simple step-by-step process to follow to restore them back to life!

Lets go over the general maintenance cleaning:

1. Sweep or vacuum all trash and crumbs.
2. Mop with a gallon of water, 1 cup of vinegar and a squirt of dish soap.
3. Let dry
4. Remove black scuff marks with a tennis ball

Restore process:

1. Spray linoleum floors with rubbing alcohol and scrub with a brush. Wipe away dirty liquid with paper towels.

Things to avoid:

1. Never use rubber or latex backed rugs on linoleum floors. This will give them those ugly yellow stains. Instead, use colorfast rugs.

2. Never use ammonia-based cleaners on the linoleum floors. This will strip the polish and damage your floors.

So I just tried this on my laundry room floor and it works. I had tried all types of cleaners and was amazed at what the rubbing alcohol could do. I used scouring pads instead of the brush as this was more effective based on the amount of build up that was on the floor. I never knew that rubber backed mats were a No-No on vinyl floors. Thank You!

Gallon of water, 1 cup of vinegar and added Lestoil instead of a squirt of dish soap. Worked like a charm.

1:44 is how I felt once the intro was finally over.

And finally someone who understands rubbing alcohol as a universal solvent!

Yeah, this process works amazingly well. My husband and son were taken back from the difference. My poor floor. But I am making it pretty again. Thank you so much.

Dude, this worked amazingly well! I did a test square in my kitchen and all the build up dissolved almost instantly. After that I pulled out my trusty deck brush to scrub, my Swiffer Wet Mop to wipe up and went to work--I am NOT about that hands-and-knees life! LOL I live in an apartment and the floors have been needing some love since the day I moved in but nothing I tried from Borax to vinegar to Awesome worked that well. Now my floors look brand new and I can't get over over easy it was. Thank you so much for sharing. 😄

I tried this on my old old old linoleum floor. Had amazing results. A tremendous amount of hard work, but worth every minute of it. Thank you for the tip

Moved in to a dorm with a nasty linoleum tile floor. This method took a while and a lot of elbow grease but it works! Years of buildup came off.

Thankyou! We purchased a new place that was built in 1991 woth the original lino flooring and it was *disgusting* 🤮 Used the cleaning mixture and scrubbed my heart out. Took my 3+hours for the whole house but my gosh! It genuinely looks brand new. All the grime and scum around the edges are gone and it looks amazing thankyou.

This is really terrific! The buildup on every square inch of linoleum throughout our new rental house is a disgrace. Not only is it an eyesore, but it's sticky underfoot. I'm excited to restore it. Thanks so much! New sub. :)

New house - 75 year-old greasy, grimy kitchen floor looks new!! Not much elbow grease needed to get the rubbing alcohol to do its thing. Thank you. 🎉

My week started off rough! I have been so anxious over the situation. Decided to clean the house. I never thought of rubbing alcohol to clean the floors! ❤ The part at the end where you are wallowing over the clean floor made me laugh so hard! I needed that. Like I said, it’s already been a bad week. Thanks for your vid. Never lose your sense of humor. 😊🤣🤣🤣

Wow! I mopped with vinegar, dishsoap and water like you said, an för the first time in 15 years the shine to my linoleum floors was back! Thank you! I will now listen to EVERYTHING you say!
And thank you for keeping it factual! I'm tired of channels giving general cleaning advice, that won't really work on the materials I have at home.

Really helpful. It’s painful but my floor is slowly coming back to life. Most helpful video I’ve seen. Thanks!

Happy to see your video. You helped me to realize, I can make a video as well. I was too busy cleaning everything and cooking. I had to wash my mats in the tub with bleachy detergent water and a broom, and allow to air dry. Baking soda did work with alcohol. I scrubbed until I saw a difference with baking soda and alcohol, and let dry. I then added a little cleanser. I scrubbed until I saw a difference and then I let dry. I then added a little dishwasher detergent. I scrubbed until I saw a difference and let dry. I added alcohol then scrubbed until I saw a difference, one final time, with baking soda. I'm sorry it was too much work for a video (I'd never planned to make a video, but I can tell you it worked. 75% of the stain is gone, and yes, it was hard work, very hard.

A trick I learned from being in the Marine Corps for five years, and having to Field Day the barracks once a week, is to take emery cloth (not sand paper, the Brillo pad kind), and drop it on the floor, and put it under your shoe and scrub the floor with your foot, using your leg (obviously after putting some soapy water on the floor). Lot better than having to get on your hand and knees, that and you have a lot more leverage. If you want to dry the floor afterwards take a utility/cleaning towel (Not one of your bath towels), and wrap it around the end of a push broom, and use that as a mop, but don't mop back and forth, push the broom like you are suppose to use a push broom.
