How to change name on layers in After Effects

If you want to change the name of a layer in your composition or you're just confused about the layer names, hopefully this video will make it a little more clear.

First of all, your layers can have 2 different names at the same time.
The source name and the layer name.
You will se the source name by default and if you click on "source name" it will switch to "layer name". These are the names you set yourself.

It doesn't matter if you're showing the source name or the layer name when you want to rename something, just select a layer and click enter and type your preferred name.
And that's all there is to it.

Thanks for the the vid! I was super confused why right click "rename" and double-clicking on the source and layer names wasn't working, but your tip to click the shape and press enter worked. Adobe always finds a way to make even the seemingly simplest tasks overly complicated 😅
