Looks like QM is an abbreviation for Quarter Master. Thanks for all those who commented.

I learned more in this video than from 50 years of reading. Providing the actual documents is paramount to showing why things were done in 1945. Superb.

You Sir, are one of the very best historians/briefers on YouTube. Having visited Kyoto, I am relived we did not bomb it.

I’m consistently amazed at your ability to locate and present your material.

I'll echo "quartermaster", although that seems a bit redundant, since the same sentence lists "supply depot".

While I'm here, let me say how much i like the format of your videos. Toy start with the intent, so we know where you're going. You always tell us the source of your documents, and it doesn't hurt to let us know that they are declassified.
Keep up the great work!

It's amazing how this channel went from discussing particulars of B-17 crew interactions to high policy targeting decisions. But I like it :)

Little request: Could you add an end screen onto the end of the video, maybe 15s long or so? There are video and channel suggestion cards that always pop up at the end, and these usually obscure the last images in your videos. Also, a few extra seconds would give people time to navigate to the like or subscribe buttons after your reminder at the end.

Keep up the good work

QM typically means “Quartermaster” (responsible for military supply support) – which it may in fact mean in the context given (“Hiroshima… has large QM and supply depots”).

And thus the phrase, _'Kokura's Luck'_ became the best example of dodging a bullet without knowing a gun had gone off.

The torpedoes used for the Pearl Harbor attack were modified in Nagasaki to be effective in a shallow water port. Hiroshima had the HQ of the Army command for S Japan.

An interesting thing I didn't see in the Target Selection Committee minutes on why not to nuke the emperor's palace. Kill the emperor, and you've got a power vacuum, which would likely be filled by military wanting to fight to the last man. Would actually make things worse instead of better.

Given that the primary target of the second bomb, Kokurra, was not hit, it seems reasonable to conclude that city would have been the primary target of a third bomb, with Niigata as the secondary.
