Reminds me of one of my closest friends when we went one of many years together. We had a ritual before opening modern gun and had a old cabin. All us friends would get together, tell stories, drink, tell lies, play cards, pass out for a few minutes. Him and i were hunting back to back that year. We live in the mountains so one sits on one side of the tree and the other on the other side watching the opposite holler and hillside from each other. We both fell asleep almost instantly. I woke up to him snoring. I guess that buck thought it was a grunt call. Lol. The Buck was to the side of us and before he woke up i had 2 shots on him. Now we were horribly hung over and the buck was maybe 25 feet away. I had a 30.06 woodmaster and a 10 round magazine so i could put lead down if i wanted. Both of us had our scopes i think that year dead on at 100 yards and that's a long shot where we live in the woods. We never field hunted. My first shot missed who knows how bad because i was aiming through the scope for im guessing you know why, my friend came alive about as bad of shape as i was in and he had a Bolt action. Also, he aimed through his scope. Lol. Its just thats the go to but the iron sights and i would have had that monster. We still tried to get him though. It ran down hill and started back up the other side. Neither one of us hit anything but dirt and trees. I used to catch his head turned every year and spike whatever he was drinking with Tinx69. Lmao. I have a hundred stories like that with Scott. Makes me happy to think about them and sad also. He passed away during covid because of blood clots. I havent been deer hunting since like that. I have some great memories and anytime i look at the mounts i have. I remember who helped me drag them up and down mountains for miles. I miss you buddy. You were one of the kind. So many memories.
