I think the Exynos variant did better because the Exynos processor is made by Samsung itself, so it's more optimized since Samsung made it to work with their own software, kinda like what Apple does with their A processors.

The exynos not only is faster but also has significantly better battery life according to GSM arena.

The Exynos is so fast because it's a processor designed for Samsung, by Samsung. So it binds with the phone so much better than the Snapdragon, which has to cater for so many other models. It's exactly this reason why Apple's chips are so fast - they only have to work on iOS devices, and therefore can be optimised really well.
