Some vegan stuff I bought from the budget store, Grocery Outlet. I spent way less than if I had bought everything from Kroger!

Gotta love that literally every item at Kroger was out of stock

I live in Pennsylvania and go to Grocery Outlet almost every week. They always have so many more vegetarian/vegan options than almost any other grocery store nearby. As a recent graduate struggling to find a job in my field, it’s a life saver. Love it. 🥰

My only problem with gross out (it's a term of endearment, really) is that everything is so cheap and i just load up on empty calorie snacks 😢

This is very interesting to watch as someone from a state without Kroger or Grocery Outlet, lol.

I remember when my ALDI sold their soy milk for 1.5 and the almond milk was 99 cents a carton… up to 2.39 now for both!

I bought like 15 packages of Follow Your Heart pepperjack cheese from Grocery Outlet like 3 months ago because they were on sale for 50 cents each and I just got through the last one lol.
You can catch some screamin deals if you're lucky and observant.

Love grocery outlet! It seems whenever I ask anyone they don’t know what it is. Glad to see someone talking about it. My mom and I always say it you find something you love at grocery outlet you better buy it all because you may never see it again 😅

It's honestly the best you'd never guess it'd be so good for vegans

We have Grocery Outlet in TN and KY too! I love going to see what they have on sale. I can sometimes find berries for $1 each! And, I think the frozen vegan meats, vegan cheeses, and plant based milks are usually the best items to look at here too.

In my city (Lyon) there is a bargain shop, it's super small and most of the food is expired (shelf stable stuff though) and you often have super cheap stuff like that one time they had pea protein milk for €0.50 a litre, I love going there and the owner is super nice and chatty and recognises the customers and gives you free stuff from time to time

I'm in PA but the closest one is still an hour away. I hope these get more popular and one opens up near me!

Couldn't be a better time. This is how I eat loads of mock meat for cheap:
Today I made about 2.5kg of seitan (5+lbs) for £5.50 ($6.72)
I buy Vital wheat gluten from holland and barret for £2 per 500g bag. I get 2, so £4 for 1kg of VWG.
I get 2 tins of ASDA basics kidney beans (33p each), 200g of plain flour (8p for ASDA basics) and quarter of a bag of chinese chicken seasoning (about £1.bag, so 25p) and some oil (like 10p worth?), and a bit of vinegar (like 2p worth because basic vinegar is about 30p/500ml).

I blitz the kidney beans in their own bean slime (yum :P ), add 2 tinfuls of water until they're all smooth and soupy. Add a hefty glug of vinegar (maybe half a cup?), the chicken seasoning and the oil (like 50ml of oil), and stir them all together until they're combined evenly.
I mix up the flour and VWG well, then add the liquid I made and knead the two together with my hands for about 10-15 mins. I then draw the seitan into thick strands and braid then knot them to get 4 big loaves of raw seitan.

I steam them all for an hour each, and 2 of them I shred into chicken strands, 1 of them I slice into slices, and one I keep whole. I freeze most of it and just keep some slices and strands for the week, and the rest lasts me about 3 months.

I also sometimes make sausages out of it. Whole thing takes me about 45 mins to make, and 2h to steam (I do 2 at a time), but I just leave them to do that, and change out which one is steaming at the end. Cutting up and putting in the fridge and washing up only takes about 15 mins.
So 1hour of work, 2hours of waiting and £5.50 for 2.5kg of plain chicken seitan :)

I know I'm lucky to get VWG for £4/kg, but I'm mainly working with what I have available to me at the cheapest prices, so this'd be different to someone, say, not in the UK.

Idaho has Grocery Outlet as well. They almost always have 3-4 different types of vegan milks for 99 cents, both shelf stable and refrigerated. I agree with you on the produce, not usually a great deal and it is often pretty suspect and wilty looking. You can find some pretty insane deals there, it's definitely a treasure hunt!

I love Grocery Outlet!! I live in a rural area and my partner and I will go to the city just to go to Grocery Outlet. I recently got Silk creamer and Silk soy milk for $0.99 per carton! I also found a box of 22 Beyond sausage patties for $5. They definitely have some crazy deals.
