The Star-Spangled Banner

The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort M'Henry", a poem written on September 14, 1814, by the then 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large American flag, with 15 stars and 15 stripes, known as the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort during the American victory.
"The Star-Spangled Banner" was recognized for official use by the United States Navy in 1889, and by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931.

Damn, I'm so proud to be an American, I will always love this country, I would join the military and fight to the death for this great nation, we may have our rough spots, but we have helped the world in so many ways, almost all of the wrongs we have ever committed have been righted. America is truly the greatest nation on Earth.

I absolutely loved this video. How far America has fallen from In God We Trust. It saddens my heart.

I never cared much for this song. Then I learned about the War of 1812. The United States seemed on the verge of defeat. The invasion of Canada had failed. Napoleon could no longer hold back Britain. It was looking like the United States would be in for years of war and likely would face defeat. The song encapsulates the feeling of relief and joy that that did not happen. The United States was able to continue on as an independent country. We had weathered the storm.
