I have run 3 different setups without cutting or shaving anything, before I started playing with compression ratios with pump gas. Then switched to e85 with best results. One particular setup the valves left really small 1/4 moon indentions in the top of the stock aluminum pistons, turns out that one block deck had been shaved. Car was loud at first with tapping, and went away after 10 minutes of driving. Would not recommend cutting it that close, but you can!
